VIOLINMAKING CREMONA

INSCRIBED IN THE UNESCO LIST OF  THE INTANGIBLE HERITAGE

The UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee, during his seventh conference, inscribed “Traditional violin craftsmanship in Cremona” in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This inscription is an extraordinary event that will contribute significantly to the diffusion of  the  “Traditional violin craftsmanship in Cremona” thanks to which will be realized unique musical instruments, knew appreciated and admired all over the world.

The conservation and the transmission is realized by the continuing exchange among the pupils, the teachers and the musicians.  The sharing with the whole Cremona community and the larger community of foreign apprentices and musicians will be favorite by this important recognition.

String instruments represent for Cremona a cultural excellence; workshops and professions related to the violinmaking are a strategic and important element for the city economy.

Today Cremona is in the middle of the mondial attention; so to take advantage by this unique opportunity it’s necessary combine the intelligences and the skills of this formidable tradition. The Cremona tradition is a unique heritage of which the whole  Cremona community but also the whole Country must look after.

The confirm is arrived with the opening of the “violin museum” to the city.  The “Violin Museum”, the violinmaking school, the triennial foundation and the Stauffer fondation prove that the started way is the right one. One curiosity: among the candidates of the year 2012 the violinmaking of Cremona “defeated” the Neapolitan pizza. Last year the UNESCO included, among the “culinary” intangible heritage, the Mediterranean diet and the france cuisine.
